Plot

In the quirky tapestry of life, two eccentric English widows find an unlikely companionship through the art of letter writing, spanning a multitude of years teeming with misadventures. From their inebriated first encounter beneath a wedding table, a spark of misunderstanding sets the stage for their enduring friendship. These lettered ladies and their families animate the events described in their correspondence, unfolding within the confines of homes, prisons, and unpredictable locations. Their exchanges often oscillate between comical, caustic, and compassionate, revealing the unvarnished truth wrapped within their ever-expanding narrative. "Ladies of Letters" is the television adaptation of a 13-year BBC 4 radio series, a brainchild of acclaimed directors and actresses Carole Hayman and Lou Wakefield, who penned the original books and the TV series. The ensemble cast also features Anne Reid, reprising her role from the radio series.
