In a future where Earth is no more, humanity teeters on the brink of extinction. The once plentiful population has dwindled to a bare minimum, besieged by an invasion of the monstrous Gauna - enigmatic shape-shifting aliens. To safeguard the remnants of the human race, colossal seed ships are crafted and dispatched across the vast expanse of cosmos, serving as the last bastions of humankind. Armed with guardian robots known as "gardes," these self-contained worlds are humanity's only defense against the relentless Gauna threat. Among these seed ships sails Sidonia, home to an ace guardian pilot, Saitou Hiroki. Hiroki, esteemed as Sidonia's top warrior, one day inexplicably rejects the life-extending medicine, vanishes with his grandson, and eventually succumbs to the ravages of time. His disappearance forces his enigmatic grandson, Nagate Tanikaze, from the shadows and into the spotlight. Flung into a world unknown, Nagate finds himself propelled into the heart of Sidonia's struggle. Recognizing the lineage of skill and courage, Sidonia's leaders task the unproven pilot with the defense of their ship. With the weight of legacy on his shoulders and the specter of the Gauna looming, Nagate takes his first steps towards earning the revered title of the "Knight of Sidonia." As he embarks on his inaugural mission, he is confronted by the very enemy that has haunted humanity. Will Nagate rise to the occasion, or will Sidonia fall to the Gauna, marking the end of the human race? The fate of humanity stands precariously in the hands of the young guardian, setting the stage for an epic battle between survival and annihilation.
