In the seemingly ordinary life of 18-year-old Takumi Fujiwara, high school student and gas station attendant, a powerful destiny stirs beneath the surface. Unbeknownst to him, his humble family duty of delivering tofu from his father's shop in the luminous 'Eight-Six' Trueno (also known as Toyota Corolla GT-S in the US), up to the apex of Mt. Akina each dawn, is forging him into Japan's most formidable mountain-pass drift-racer. His world shifts gear the night he crosses paths with Keisuke Takahashi, the formidable second-in-command of the notorious RedSuns team. Suddenly, Takumi finds himself thrust into a fast-paced universe of high-stakes drift-racing, where he must navigate the treacherous mountain passes of Gunma prefecture at breakneck speed. As he grapples with his new reality, Takumi finds support in unexpected places. The local Akina Speedstars team steps up, backing him in his unforeseen journey. His somewhat brash friend Itsuki, his enigmatic girlfriend Natsuke, and his chain-smoking ex-racer father Bunta, whose wisdom flows as freely as the smoke from his cigarettes, become his pit crew. With their collective guidance, and his innate skill, Takumi must outpace and outsmart Japan's most gifted underground drift-racers, proving that even the most average beginnings can birth extraordinary legends.
