Plot

In the delightful royal comedy, Gilded Chopsticks, we follow the flavorful journey of Tin Po, portrayed by Cho Lam Wong (Heart of Greed). Once a member of an esteemed family, a twist of fate forces Tin Po to swap his silver spoon for a humble baker's oven, earning a living through selling his delectable fish buns. Our culinary hero's life intertwines with that of the spirited street performer Mo Suet (Joey Meng of A Change of Heart), the compassionate food enthusiast Yuek Bik (Nancy Wu, Triumph in the Skies), and the competitive noodle shop proprietor Siu Yu (Stephanie Ho, The Hippocratic Crush II). Tin Po's ordinary life takes a royal turn when his fish buns create a culinary sensation in the Imperial Palace, leading to an unexpected summons from Fourth Prince Yin Zhen, played by Ben Wong (The Hippocratic Crush). In the midst of a power struggle with his emperor father, the Kangxi Emperor (Elliot Ngok, Storm in a Cocoon), Yin Zhen sees Tin Po's cooking skills as a weapon in his quest for the throne. With the palace's grandeur as a backdrop, Tin Po, aided by his friends and servant Lei Wai (Jack Wu, A Change of Heart), steps into a world of power and politics. Yet, his entrance is marred by the chilly reception from his old foe Hok Ting Choi (Bob Lam), the Head Imperial Chef who once caused the downfall of Tin Po's restaurant. As if navigating this treacherous rivalry wasn't enough, Tin Po soon finds himself embroiled in a dangerous royal rivalry between Yin Zhen and Eighth Prince Yin Si (Louis Cheung, Cantopop singer) - a rival with stronger support and a strategy that doesn't depend on a chef's special dish. Amidst the chaos of palace politics, accidental marriages, and simmering rivalries, Tin Po must rely on his culinary cunning and his unique fish buns to help his royal ally. As the stakes rise, the question lingers: can Tin Po stay cool in the heat of the royal kitchen, or will he be forced to hang up his apron? Gilded Chopsticks, initially known as "Food for the Slaves," is a feast for the eyes, drawing inspiration from The Deer and the Cauldron, and serves up a rich tale of culinary mastery and royal power plays.
