In the dawn of the twenty-first century, Earth finds itself on the cusp of a new era as it becomes the host to the Taelons, an enigmatic and androgynous alien species. Presenting themselves as the "Companions", they promise to usher in a future free from crime, disease, and famine. Their motives seem pure, wanting nothing more than to share their advanced knowledge and foster a deep connection with their human counterparts. Commander William Boone, a decorated Special Forces soldier turned diligent cop, emerges as a key figure in this interspecies alliance. After a daring rescue of Da'an, the Taelon overseer for North America, Boone is appointed as the Companions' interspecies liaison.
