Brynhildr in the Darkness (2014)

In his youth, Murakami was intrigued by a girl known as Kuroneko, a fervent believer in extraterrestrials, claiming she had encountered them. Despite his doubt, her conviction was infectious, and he found himself drawn to her mystery. One fateful day, she vows to reveal these aliens to him, but tragedy strikes before she could, resulting in her death and leaving Murakami gravely injured. As years pass, Murakami becomes consumed with unearthing evidence of alien life, driven by a promise he made to Kuroneko. Suddenly, a new student named Kurohaneko steps into his class, bearing an uncanny resemblance to Kuroneko and stirring echoes of the past. The quest for truth thus takes an unexpected turn, as the lines between reality and fantasy begin to blur.
