Plot

Drenched in the political shadows of Franco's Madrid in 1961, Arde Madrid paints a vibrant tapestry of intrigue, transformation, and unlikely alliances. At its heart is Ana Mari, a conservative, physically impaired spinster. Steeped in loyalty to Franco, she molds young women into perfect housewives and mothers. Her ordinary life takes a dramatic twist when she's assigned to spy on the Hollywood siren, Ava Gardner, an assignment she accepts without hesitation. To orchestrate this espionage, Ana Mari must assume a facade of matrimonial bliss with Manolo, Ava's charismatic chauffeur. Manolo, a hustler at heart, is an embodiment of spontaneity and opportunism, a stark contrast to Ana Mari's staunch principles. He weaves his dodgy dealings with local gypsy clans into his role, inadvertently embroiling both Ana Mari and her schizophrenic brother, Floren, in his exploits. In Ava's world, Ana Mari finds herself immersed in an intoxicating blend of glamour and excess, a far cry from her modest existence. Ava's liberal lifestyle, marked by endless parties with Madrid's elite Dolce Vita crowd, not only keeps the neighborhood's sleep-starved former Argentinian dictator, Juan Perón, on edge, but also nudges Ana Mari towards a profound personal evolution. As she navigates Ava's tumultuous world, alongside young maid Pilar, Ana Mari unwittingly embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Amidst the chaos, she finds herself drawn to the unpredictable Manolo, a connection that sparks an intimate bond between them. Through wild parties, high-stakes spying, and burgeoning relationships, Arde Madrid captures the essence of an era while offering a riveting exploration of personal metamorphosis.
