Yellow Sky (1948)

In the wild, lawless backdrop of the West in 1867, a notorious band of bank robbers, led by the enigmatic James "Stretch" Dawson, finds themselves on the run after a daring heist. The gang, composed of the eccentric cadre of Dude, Bull Run, Lengthy, Half Pint, Walrus, and Jed, narrowly evade the relentless pursuit of the cavalry, but at the cost of Jed's life. Desperate and cornered, they decide to vanish into the unforgiving desert, a decision that brings an end to their pursuers but pushes them to the brink of death, their spirits waning under the scorching sun and their bodies aching for water. Salvation appears in the form of an eerily quiet ghost town known as Yellow Sky, where they stumble upon the fiery Constance "Mike" Mae, and her grandfather, the enigmatic Charles Kemper. As they recover, quenching their thirst at a spring shown by Mike, the outlaws uncover an intriguing secret. Dude, ever the inquisitive, discovers prospecting tools near the old man's house, sparking suspicion of hidden gold. The allure of a quick fortune tempts the gang, their greed pitted against the solitary lives of Mike and her grandfather. A deal is struck between the outlaws and the old man, with Stretch promising to claim only half the gold. However, the promise of wealth and the lust for power begin to fracture the gang. A tenuous peace is further threatened as the hardened Stretch finds himself entranced by the fiery Mike, setting the stage for a tension-fueled showdown. As greed, desire, and loyalty collide, Stretch is forced to choose between the allure of gold and the unexpected bond he's formed with Mike.
