In the heart of her forties, Peggy (Molly Shannon) leads a solitary existence as a single, childless executive assistant in a congenial office. Her sole comfort and true love is her loyal dog, Pencil. However, a tragic turn of events ensues when Pencil meets an untimely demise due to an ingested toxin, spiraling Peggy's life into an uncontrollable whirlwind. As serendipity would have it, a compassionate neighbor extends a dinner invitation, and a kind-hearted vet employee suggests an abused dog for adoption. Embracing the unexpected, she not only adopts the dog but also becomes inexplicably drawn to her canine cupid. Her life takes a radical shift as she becomes a staunch vegan, a fervent supporter of animal rights, and even drags her brother's innocent children into her newfound passions. Her zealous pursuit to save dogs and all other animals becomes an obsession to the point where her mental stability and career are teetering on the edge.
