In the budding dawn of the 20th century, Elizabeth Thatcher, a woman of affluence and privilege, dares to defy societal expectations by choosing a humble career as a schoolteacher. Born to a prominent Canadian shipping magnate, Elizabeth's life of luxury takes an unexpected turn when her first assignment uproots her from her comfortable city life and transplants her into Coal Valley, a minuscule coal-mining town nestled in the rugged terrains of Alberta's frontier.
