Plot

Set against the vibrant backdrop of Tokyo amidst the excitement of the 1964 Summer Olympic Games, "Walk Don't Run" weaves a captivating tale of unexpected romance, quick-witted subterfuge, and the unpredictable games of the heart. Our narrative begins with British industrialist Sir William Rutland, or "Bill" (Cary Grant), who arrives in Tokyo two days ahead of schedule. With the Olympics in full swing, he's stranded without a hotel room. Spotting an opportunity on a British Embassy message board, Bill employs his smooth-talking charm to secure a stay in the apartment of Christine Easton (Samantha Eggar). Despite her initial intent to sublet her sitting room to a female tenant, she soon finds herself sharing her one-bedroom apartment with our charismatic protagonist. However, the comedic twists don't end there. Enter Steve Davis (Jim Hutton), an enigmatic athlete with the American Olympic team who's as secretive about his event as he is about his sudden homelessness. Like Bill, Steve arrives early and without a place to stay, leading him to share the already-cramped sitting room with Bill, unbeknownst to Christine. Juggling this precarious living arrangement and a 22-month engagement to the irritatingly officious Julius D. Haversack (Sir John Standing), a high-ranking official at the British Embassy, Christine finds herself unwittingly drawn to the mysterious Steve. Witnessing the budding romance, Bill, the ever-opportunistic matchmaker, sees an opportunity to nudge the young lovers closer while skillfully sidelining Mr. Haversack. As the truth about the unusual roommate situation threatens to surface, Bill ingeniously turns the potential catastrophe into an opportunity for Christine and Steve's happiness. Infused with humour, romance, and a dash of well-intended mischief, "Walk Don't Run" offers a delightfully intricate narrative that promises to keep viewers engaged until the final frame.
