Plot

In the heartland of America, the quirky residents of Blaine, Missouri, a town that playfully contests Roswell's claim to the first UFO landing and takes pride in being the stool capital of the world, are brimming with excitement. The town is gearing up to commemorate its 150th anniversary with an original musical spectacle titled "Red, White and Blaine". This ambitious project is under the leadership of Corky St. Clair, a former New York theater professional working on the fringes of off-off-off-off-off-Broadway, who now heads the Blaine Community Players. Assisted by the earnest but equally untalented high school music teacher, Lloyd Miller, Corky embarks on a journey to bring to life his vision with a cast of unlikely stars: a local dentist, a pair of enthusiastic travel agents, a Dairy Queen waitress, and a car repairman. Despite their glaring lack of talent and the numerous setbacks and missteps that plague the pre-production, the unshakeable spirit of the Blaine troupe remains undeterred. Their collective dreams and the success of their theatrical endeavour rest on the anticipated presence of Mort Guffman, a critic from the esteemed New York based Oppenheimer Organization, on opening night. In Corky's hopeful imagination, a nod of approval from Guffman is their golden ticket to Broadway. As the day of the performance draws near, the anticipation and tension rise in Blaine, a town collectively holding its breath and waiting for Guffman.
