A few months after the high-stakes events of Page Eight, Johnny Worricker, a former MI5 agent, has found a temporary haven on the sun-drenched islands of Turks & Caicos. His peaceful anonymity is disrupted when he crosses paths with the enigmatic American, Curtis Pelissier. Despite his feigned ignorance, Johnny's instincts expose Pelissier as a CIA agent, opening a Pandora's box of intrigue and danger.
Drawn into a shadowy web woven by three American businessmen, co-owners of a firm known as Gladstone, Johnny finds himself at the heart of a mystery that stretches across the globe. The businessmen, who are seemingly on the island for a conference concerning the global financial crisis, are dismissive of Johnny's claim of being a humble civil servant. Among them is Melanie Fall, the savvy head of their public relations agency, who seems to harbor secrets of her own.
The plot thickens when one of the businessmen is found lifeless in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. As Johnny delves deeper, he uncovers a chilling connection between the Gladstone group and British financier Stirling Rogers. The realization dawns on him that they might be entangled in the same controversy that forced him to flee Britain - the illegal rendition and torture of suspected terrorists.
