In the heart of the rustic countryside, the tale of Tierra baja unfurls, centered around the stoic Manelik (Pedro Armendáriz), a humble shepherd whose fierce love for his flock knows no bounds. His solitary existence is shattered when he crosses paths with a wealthy corn merchant and a mesmerizing woman (Zully Moreno), who are entwined in a Machiavellian plot as twisted as the corn maze they emerge from.
Manelik, bewitched by the woman's allure, finds himself a pawn in the merchant's scheme, unknowingly wedding the woman, who is, in truth, the merchant's own betrothed. Despite her initial reluctance, the union blossoms, transforming the shepherd into a respected figure and a skilful corn merchant, under the thumb of his cunning master.
As the moon bathes the mill in an eerie glow, the merchant visits his former fiancée in secret, a clandestine relationship hidden from Manelik's sight. Yet, amidst the deceit, a spark ignites between Manelik and the woman. She begins to despise her fiancé, her heart drawn to the shepherd as the plot spirals out of control.
In Tierra baja, love and deception dance a dangerous waltz, creating a captivating tale where the poor shepherd may yet become the unlikely hero.
