Plot

In the heartwarming film, The Windmill, we journey alongside Hendri, a 20-year-old whose life takes an unusual twist. Finding himself on the doorstep of a strangely familiar retirement village, Hendri is to live with his reclusive, and somewhat senile, grandfather. His world, once filled with youthful vibrancy, is now adorned with garden ornaments, punctuated by the rhythmic calls of bingo nights, and influenced by the eccentricities of the village's elderly inhabitants. A quirky neighbor takes a particular interest in Hendri, insisting he take regular baths at her house - a peculiar request that colors Hendri's new life with an additional layer of oddity. Yet, it's in the midst of this offbeat world that Hendri's life takes a more mystical turn. Drawn by the allure of shadowy figures venturing into the forest one night, Hendri's curiosity leads him into the heart of the unknown. Beneath the moonlit sky, a windmill emerges from the heart of a dam, its silhouette reflected in the shimmering water. This surreal sight is further mystified by the elderly villagers plunging into the dam's cool depths. Amidst this uncanny spectacle, a beautiful young girl named Margot materializes from the shadowy embrace of the trees. Captivated by her ethereal beauty and enigmatic presence, Hendri is instantly smitten. Yet, this newfound love, like the mysterious village and its peculiar residents, is not as straightforward as it appears. The Windmill weaves a tale of enchantment and intrigue, revealing that sometimes, things are not quite what they seem in the warm glow of the moonlight.
