Plot

Rudy Bronson, a college senior with a passion for music, rallies a band of fellow students and embarks on an audacious plan to meet his mail-order saxophone guru, Ted Grant, at his luxurious Long Island abode. The ever-elusive Grant and his manager, however, disheartened by Rudy's continuous attempts to gain entry, retreat to the city's hustle and bustle. In a final, desperate act, the band tries breaking down the door, catching the attention of Grant’s neighbors - the sophisticated Mrs. Whitehall and her enchanting niece, Jean. Mistaking the band for burglars, they alert the local law enforcement. In a twist of fate, Sport, one of the band members, convinces the police that Rudy is none other than the renowned Ted Grant, who has merely misplaced his key. Rudy, eager to dodge a prison cell, plays along with the charming ruse. When Mrs. Whitehall invites the faux Ted Grant to perform at her forthcoming charity event for orphans, Rudy - captivated by the radiant Jean - accepts, despite the nagging fear of his true identity being revealed. His heart fluttering for Jean, Rudy is left to wonder how long he can keep up the charade and what will unfold when the truth inevitably comes to light.
