The telephone, her lifeline, keeps her connected to the world outside, a world she attempts to navigate from her humble abode. As evening descends, Vashti's answering machine becomes a canvas of her life's realities and fantasies. Messages flicker through, bearing news of an audition, an overdue phone bill, and a voice that she is convinced belongs to Larry, her estranged lover.
