In the heart of Los Angeles, Allison Kelly, a successful realtor, grapples with the painful reality of her infertility. Having preserved her last hope in the form of a single viable embryo, she and her husband, Jacob Kelly, a respected college professor and novelist, decide to explore the world of surrogacy. Despite the clinical efficiency of surrogacy agencies, they find comfort in entrusting their unborn child to a familiar face - Kate Randall, a recent addition to Jacob's English department at the college. However, beneath the surface of Kate's supportive demeanor lurks a chilling obsession with Jacob.
