Plot

In the tempestuous era of King Youngjo's 10th year of reign, Joseon Dynasty is gripped by a maelstrom of looting and human trafficking. Amidst this chaos, Hak-gyu (Lee Bong-geun), a gifted street singer with a voice that echoes the hopes and grievances of the common people, embarks on a relentless journey across the Eight Provinces. His mission? To find his beloved wife, Gan-nan (Lee Yu-ri), who has been cruelly kidnapped. As Hak-gyu traverses the strife-torn kingdom, his soulful songs captivate the hearts of the masses, inciting them to join him in his quest. Accompanying him on this arduous journey are Dae-bong (Park Chul-min), a passionate drummer, and a mysterious poor nobleman (Kim Dong-wan), each carrying their own secrets and burdens. As this motley band of entertainers journey through the heart of Joseon, they transform their experiences of joy, sorrow, and resilience into a traveling theatre performance that reverberates in every town they visit. Their captivating show, laced with the raw essence of life, sparks a wave of unity among the people. In an era tainted by corruption, the harmonious strains of Hak-gyu's songs resonate with the people, igniting a spark of hope and resistance. The Singer (2020) is a stirring tale of an ordinary man's extraordinary journey, a testament to the power of music to stir hearts, unite people, and ultimately, change the world.
