Plot
In the quaint confines of a small town, the tapestry of life weaves six enthralling stories together over the course of one Saturday. Two brave lads become unlikely heroes as they rescue Anni, a despairing young woman and her infant from the cold clutches of a suicidal plunge into the river. On the same day, Esa - a struggling musician, haunted by his stalled career, returns home to attend his father's 60th birthday, with hopes of securing a much-needed loan.
At a bustling pizza parlor, Leena, a spirited waitress, plays cupid, stirring the pot of romance among her unsuspecting colleagues. Meanwhile, Ilpo, a middle-aged man burdened by the monotony of his paper mill job, comes home to a startling discovery - a mysterious stranger occupying his bedroom. In the sterile silence of a hospital, elderly Milja patiently waits for her daughter, Merja, as she pays a visit to her ailing husband, Henri, whose life is hanging by a thread.
In the midst of all these lives intricately intertwined, teenage Santeri grapples with his emerging sexuality, trying to come to terms with his homosexuality. The River paints a vivid portrait of life, with its trials, triumphs, and the unexpected turns it takes, all set against the backdrop of a tranquil small town.
