In the heart of The Recipe, we follow the journey of tenacious TV producer, Choi Yu-jin, on his quest for an enigmatic culinary treasure—a spellbinding spicy bean-curd stew, and its equally enigmatic creator. His path is sparked by an unusual lead, the last worldly craving of Kim Jong-gu, a notorious mass murderer, who, prior to his execution, yearned for a taste of the humble yet heavenly dwinjang jjigae (bean-curd soup stew).
The trail takes Choi away from the bustling city and into the tranquil embrace of a mountain pine forest outside Seoul, where Kim was arrested. The arrest happened at the quaint Sanjang Restaurant, his taste buds ensnared by a bowl of dwinjang jjigae that could only be described as an elixir of bliss. However, the plot thickens when Choi learns that the culinary maestro behind the stew was not the restaurant's owner, but a mysterious young woman, Jang Hye-jin.
Arriving one day with nothing but a suitcase, she was welcomed into the restaurant and left a legacy of a dish that could captivate even the darkest hearts. However, as swiftly as she appeared, Jang vanishes, leaving behind only her tantalizing stew. Driven by curiosity and a taste of the stew, Choi embarks on an obsessive search for the elusive Jang, and her secret recipe that blends simple ingredients into an extraordinary feast for the senses.
