Plot

Set amidst the brutal backdrop of World War I in 1917, the film 'The Permission' chronicles the story of Jeanne Perreau (Hande Kodja), a modern woman of her time, confined in the shadows of grief over her brother's death on the battlefield. A looming financial crisis threatens her family's stability, compelling her to accept the marriage proposal from the affluent and alluring Adrien de Volnay (Michaël Cohen). Adrien's sincere affection for Jeanne is unreciprocated, as an inexplicable intuition restricts her from returning his love. Just when Jeanne resigns herself to this loveless union, an unexpected guest arrives at their doorstep. Bakary (Souleymane Seye Ndiaye), a Senegalese rifleman who fought loyally under her deceased brother's command, is on leave. His arrival stirs a whirlwind of emotions within Jeanne, and despite their stark differences, they find themselves irresistibly drawn towards each other. This unexpected and intense attraction sparks a clandestine love affair, a love deemed impossible by societal norms of the time. Their secret passion not only incites rampant hatred and fury but also unravels dark, hidden secrets that challenge their forbidden love. The film 'The Permission' beautifully captures this tale of love, loss, and courage in the face of adversity, leaving viewers intrigued and captivated by the unfolding dramatic saga.
