In the heart of Madrid, Rafael finds redemption from his scandalous past with the help of Leonor Marchioness of Montenegro, landing a job as a gardener in the opulent mansion of Antonio Fernández Herrador, the influential Minister of Economy. As the minister immerses himself in a whirlpool of political pursuits, he unintentionally abandons his enchanting young wife, Teresa, leaving their marriage teetering on the brink of collapse.
In this emotionally barren landscape, the neglected Teresa finds solace in the arms of the handsome gardener, Rafael. Their passionate encounters ignite a flame that eventually leads to Teresa's pregnancy. Outraged by the news, the Minister, crippled by impotence, insists on an abortion, only to be met with Teresa's unwavering determination to bear the child.
