In the languid summer of 1957, deep in the heart of rural Louisiana, the Trant family exists in harmony, as enchanting as the melodies of the King himself, Elvis. Fourteen-year-old Dani Trant, a spirited tomboy teetering on the cusp of womanhood, finds herself caught in the bittersweet crossroads of adolescence. Adored and admonished in equal measure by her father, Matthew, she seeks solace in the untouched tranquility of the neighboring Foster property's pond, a sanctuary untouched since the Fosters moved away fifteen years ago. Dani idolizes her older sister, Maureen - a radiance of beauty and wisdom, soon to be whisked away by the promises of a college education. Though perfect in Dani's eyes, Maureen harbors her own uncertainties, her relationship with Billy Sanders being one of them - a romance, it seems, that lacks the spark of commitment. The quaint tranquility of the Trants' world shifts when the now fatherless Fosters return to their abandoned home.
