Plot

When Powder Kilgore (Ray Bennett) murders the reputable freighter Jeff Cameron (Edward LeSaint), his fiery daughter, "Spunky" (Iris Meredith) calls upon the notorious gunfighter Wild Bill Saunders (Bill Elliott). With over 195 film credits, yet never billed as William 'Wild Bill' Elliott, Bill steps into a town cowed by the Kilgore gang's reign of terror. A unique solution presents itself in the form of Governor Dawson (Don Beddoe), who permits Bill to assemble a state ranger's organization from the unlikeliest of heroes - convicted gunmen languishing in prison. The promise of pardons awaits those who prove their worth, a narrative twist that writer/director Robert Emmett Tansey has artfully woven into multiple tales over a decade. Bill's first victory arrives swiftly as he takes on Kilgore's henchman, Lightning Barlow (Francis Walker), who has been pressuring "Spunky" to surrender half of her freighting business for his 'protection'. A triumphant Bill throws Barlow and other gang members behind bars after he and his reformed "rangers" thwart a daring gold-shipment ambush. But danger lurks around every corner. When "Spunky" and her loyal sidekick Cannonball (Dub Taylor) accidentally discover Kilgore's secret hideout, they find themselves ensnared in a perilous trap. Bill must now tap into his raw courage and strategic genius to rescue them, even as Kilgore and his henchmen close in, turning the hideout into a powder keg of tension and imminent danger.
