By the Sun's Rays (1914)

In the rugged, gold-rich veins of Colorado, a malevolent plot unfolds as bandits brazenly seize a precious gold shipment. The source of their insider knowledge remains shrouded in mystery, prompting the Chicago headquarters of the mining company to send forth their top detective, John Murdock, to assist the beleaguered mine superintendent, John Davis. In this tense atmosphere, the enigmatic Frank Lawler, a seemingly innocuous office clerk, harbors a dangerous secret and a sinister affection for the unassuming Dora Davis, the superintendent's daughter. Dora, however, finds herself instinctively recoiling from Lawler's advances, her heart stirred instead by the arrival of the determined Murdock. In a shocking twist of events, another gold shipment disappears under their watch, igniting a burning urgency within Murdock. Juggling his burgeoning feelings for Dora with his duty, he assembles a robust posse, ready to strike. Love momentarily distracts the pair, but a flash of sunlight dancing off a distant hill pierces their idyll. Spotting Lawler communicating with mysterious accomplices through a coded mirror signal, Murdock springs into action. The treacherous Lawler, oblivious to his exposure, returns to the office, where Dora masterfully keeps him distracted under the guise of accepting his advances. Meanwhile, Murdock and his posse close in on the accomplices, capturing them in a thrilling pursuit. With Lawler's escape thwarted and his treachery laid bare, Dora and Murdock finally acknowledge their shared feelings, their love story unfolding just as the picture fades against the backdrop of justice served and villainy vanquished.
