Plot

Haunted by an intense emptiness and profound sadness, 29-year-old Leigh abandons her bustling life in New York City. Once a valedictorian and a thriving reporter, she now finds herself on a sabbatical, journeying back to the place where she last tasted the sweetness of happiness—her childhood home in Connecticut. Trading skyscrapers for suburban tranquillity, Leigh plunges back into her high school job as a lifeguard, swimming against the tides of her disapproving parents and local bullies who populate the pool. Her friends, still tethered to the small town, watch as Leigh grapples with her quest for happiness, a quest that grows more complex with every passing day. In the midst of her struggle, Leigh finds an unlikely ally in Little Jason, a troubled high school student. A bond ignites between them, their shared loneliness forming a bridge across the chasm of their age difference. However, the friendship soon morphs into a dangerous liaison, an illicit relationship that sends ripples through their stagnant town. As Leigh navigates the choppy waters of her personal journey, she is met with a stark reality—her pursuit of happiness may come at a steep, tragic cost. As disapproval and tragedy loom, Leigh is faced with choices that will either shatter her world or pave the path towards the happiness she so desperately seeks.
