In the radiant city of Savannah, renowned golfer Rannulph Junuh revels in the good life, with Adele Invergordon, the daughter of a wealthy landowner, by his side. However, when the First World War erupts, Junuh is called to duty, leaving behind the comfort of his life for the perilous trenches of Europe. An unfortunate sole survivor of a dangerous mission, Junuh retreats from the world for 15 years, his spirit scarred and his once impeccable swing lost. In 1930, Junuh returns to a Savannah altered by the Depression. Tragedy has struck Adele's family, her father having taken his life, leaving behind a golf course burdened by debt.
