Plot

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Barcelona, Catalonia, resides Manel, a neurotic scientist who is convinced that the three laws of thermodynamics govern the ebbs and flows of all human life. This intriguing obsession guides him as he pens his thesis while working as a university teaching assistant. His tranquil life with his long-term girlfriend, Raquel, is disrupted when fate intertwines his path with Elena, a tantalizingly famous top model, Eva, an ambitious young lawyer with a budding firm, and his friend Pablo, an Argentinian advertising CEO with an insatiable appetite for women. This chance encounter triggers a romantic domino effect. Manel parts ways with Raquel and becomes entangled in a whirlwind romance with Elena, while Pablo and Eva embark on a no-strings-attached sexual odyssey. As Manel and Elena navigate their idyllic love story, it soon starts showing signs of turbulence, exacerbated by Manel's neuroticism and compulsive tendencies, all rooted in his unwavering belief in the omnipotence of thermodynamics. Elena, tired of Manel's obsession, leaves him, setting him on a desperate quest to win her back. Meanwhile, Pablo, after a dramatic fall from a double-decker bus at a party, attempts to mend his broken relationship with Eva, complicated by their previous sexual escapades. Interwoven throughout the film are insightful discussions by real-life scientists who elucidate the laws of thermodynamics and their influence on the universe, from the Big Bang to modern scientific discoveries. As the narrative unfolds, Pablo grapples with an unexpected pregnancy, questioning his capability of being a family man. Simultaneously, Manel ponders whether he can salvage his relationship with Elena despite thermodynamics' potential interference. This complex tapestry of love, science, and fate makes for a compelling exploration of life's unpredictable laws and the human heart's unyielding resilience.
