Plot

In a world where assassinations of VIPs spark public fury, an obscure 400-year-old law is resurrected, mandating the execution of the assassin. With a governmental election drawing near, the unpopular rulers seize this opportunity to curry favor, deciding to outsource the execution to the private sector. Enter Hugo, a beleaguered prison governor grappling with a turbulent career, precarious finances, and a marital crisis. Overlooked for promotion and haunted by his wife's escalating expenses, Hugo's life is a storm of challenges. An American corporation running the prison is handed the execution contract, and Hugo is entrusted with the task by a superior who wishes for his downfall. Amidst the turmoil, an old acquaintance emerges with a lifeline. Maurice, a seasoned con artist and a frequent guest of Hugo's prison, proposes a daring scheme - setting up a covert offshore company to auction off the television rights for the execution. Driven to desperation, Hugo acquiesces. As the execution looms, the event, now branded as "X-Day", ignites a media frenzy, catapulting it into the spotlight as the world's most sensational reality TV show. The once-unpopular execution now stands as the most talked-about spectacle, a televisual phenomenon that the world has never witnessed before. Will Hugo's clandestine operation unravel amidst the chaos or will he successfully navigate his way through this labyrinth of deceit and desperation? Find out in "The Last British Execution."
