Billy Mitchell set a worldwide record for the arcade game King Kong for nearly a quarter century, but there are always a few relentless and skilled players who set their sights on breaking it. When player Steve Wiebe finally beats the record, Mitchell responds shortly thereafter by beating the new record Wiebe has set. It launches a rivalry between the two men that goes beyond the glory of an arcade game and digs deep into the culture of hobbyists who carefully track and moderate score keeping in old games. The conflict between these two men anchors an exploration of the subculture.
