As the dawn of the 19th century illuminates Washington, the tale unfolds of young Margaret O'Neal, or Peggy as she's fondly known. The daughter of Major William O'Neal, the innkeeper of a popular stopover for out-of-town politicians and military men, Peggy is a radiant beauty with a sharp mind attuned to the intricate dance of politics. Her charm and intellect draw a carousel of suitors, all eager to claim her hand, yet her heart beats for only one man who remains oblivious to her affection.
In the pivotal year of 1828, Peggy's life takes an unexpected turn when she becomes the unofficial first lady to her dear friend, the newly elected President Andrew Jackson.
