Plot

In the chilling twilight of his life, Professor Henry Morlant, a fervent Egyptologist, entrusts his priceless jewel stolen from an ancient tomb to the secret care of his loyal servant. On his deathbed, Morlant's last wish is to be entombed with the jewel clasped in his hand, under the ominous shadow of an Anubis statue in the family crypt, hoping to buy his passage into the afterlife. This strange endowment attracts the enigmatic Egyptian, Aga Ben Dragore, whose knife-edge desire is to reclaim the sacred gem. As Morlant breathes his last, the heirs to his estate, the young Ralph Morlant, his cousin Betty Harlon, and her confidante Miss Kaney, arrive. Alongside them, the butler, the local minister Nigel Hartley, Morlant's solicitor Mr. Broughton, and the mysterious Dragore, find themselves entangled in a web of unsettling events. The precious stone disappears from Morlant's crypt, and an eerie silence descends upon the estate. Under the haunting glow of the full moon, Morlant, just as he prophesied, rises from his grave, a ghastly figure driven by a thirst for vengeance. But neither the living nor the dead know who among them now possesses the potent jewel. As the undead Morlant stalks the shadowy halls of his estate, the living scramble to decipher the unfolding mystery, all the while questioning who could dare to steal from the tomb of the vengeful professor. A haunting tale of ancient curses, "The Ghoul" (1933) weaves a chilling tapestry of revenge, mystery, and the relentless pursuit of power that transcends the veil between life and death.
