Plot

In the opulent suburbs of Argentina, young Lala, a daughter of privilege, finds herself irresistibly drawn to Guayi, the 20-year-old Payaguayan maid employed at her home. Their love story, as desperate as it is daring, transcends their starkly contrasting social backgrounds but finds no acceptance in the world they inhabit. The two star-crossed lovers harbor a shared dream - to escape to Paraguay and build a life together on the tranquil shores of Lake Ypoá. Stealing from every purse and wallet in the house, they accumulate their escape fund in a humble shoe box. But the box is more than a mere container; it encapsulates their fervent desires, simmering jealousy, and unspoken rage. When it overflows, it ignites a chain of events that propels them on a dangerous journey along the highway linking Buenos Aires and Paraguay. The narrative takes a twist when Lala's past resurfaces, entwined with the enigmatic tale of her pregnancy and the local legend of a fish child, believed to shepherd the drowned to the lake's depths. As she eagerly awaits a reunion with her beloved Guayi at Ypoá, she unravels these mysteries. Meanwhile, Guayi finds herself confined in a juvenile detention center on the fringes of Buenos Aires, her past crime casting a long shadow. Their dream of an idyllic life in Paraguay hangs in the balance, threatened by their secrets, lies, and the crime they committed in the name of love. Their tale is a testament to the desperate lengths to which love can drive us, painting a vivid picture of passion, defiance, and redemption.
