Plot

In the heart of Budapest, two Americans, Adam Ellis, a once-successful Manhattan prosecutor now aspiring writer, and Lisa Warrington, a determined financier, share an apartment. The dwelling belongs to Lisa's boss, József Kovács, a former Communist turned dealmaker, who is worshipped by Lisa and despised by his fellow countrymen. Their mundane existence is shattered when a blonde waif named Marta, with fear in her eyes and danger at her heels, bursts into their lives. Engaged in a high-stakes chase through Budapest's underground and the winding streets, Marta eludes two menacing pursuers. In a pulse-pounding encounter, she dispatches one with a swift stroke of her straight razor, leaving a chilling trail of blood in a dimly lit corridor. With the other still in pursuit, she seeks refuge in Adam's apartment, where she attempts to seduce him and weaves a tale of intrigue involving her husband, her young daughter, and the unsavory Kovács. Adam, ensnared by Marta's allure and her chilling story, decides to help her. But as he finds himself in the crosshairs of a dangerous showdown, he must grapple with a crucial question: is Marta telling the truth? As the tension escalates, Lisa's loyalty to Kovács begins to waver and the lines between friend and foe blur. Their lives intertwine in an unsettling dance of deception, desire, and danger, where trust is scarce and every revelation uncovers a new layer of mystery. In this high-stakes game, the truth is as elusive as the shadows in the Budapest night.
