In the heart of Brussels, Victor Florescu, a gifted composer of profound music, diligently shapes his unfinished operetta, "The Cat and the Fiddle", under the watchful eyes of the esteemed Professor Bertier at the Music Conservatory. His world takes a melodious turn when Shirley Sheridan, a talented Tin Pan Alley-style composer from New York, moves into the neighboring pensione. Victor, ensnared by love at first sight, finds his life rhythm changing. As Shirley, with dreams of studying under Professor Bertier, crosses paths with Victor, he becomes an unexpected muse and guide, helping her refine her musical craft. Her talent and charm do not go unnoticed by Jules Daudet, a renowned impresario who, intrigued by her potential and allure, decides to publish her music while nursing a personal interest in her. Propelled into a whirlwind of fame and fortune, Shirley is compelled to relocate to Paris. Victor, smitten and supportive, willingly accompanies her, setting aside his own musical dreams to nurture hers. But the city of love brings with it a challenging crossroad: Victor must choose between the completion of his operetta and his love for Shirley. The decision becomes increasingly complex as Daudet lurks in the backdrop, eager to be the sole maestro conducting Shirley's life.
