The Cat and the Canary (1939)

A decade following the demise of the wealthy Cyrus Norman, his loyal attorney Cosby convenes Cyrus's six remaining kinsfolk at his opulent New Orleans mansion for the much-anticipated "reading of the will". To the collective dismay of the relatives, Joyce, a young and vibrant woman, emerges as the sole beneficiary. However, a shadow of uncertainty looms over her fortune, as a secondary will exists, preparing for a contingency should Joyce fall prey to the family's infamous streak of insanity. This revelation casts Joyce into a perilous situation. Just as the air grows tense, Miss Lu, Cyrus's enigmatic maid, materializes, bearing an ominous warning. Guided by whispers from the spirit world, she prophesizes that one among them is fated to die before dawn. The plot thickens when Hendrick, a seasoned prison guard, infiltrates the scene to alert them of "The Cat", a notorious homicidal maniac on the loose. This revelation propels Cyrus's relatives into a night teeming with unsolved mysteries, chilling murders, and tense intrigue, setting the stage for a thrilling, suspense-filled journey into the unknown.
