Plot

In the thrilling narrative of The Canal (2014), we follow the life of film archivist David (Rupert Evans), whose world begins to unravel in the most unsettling ways. David and his pregnant wife Alice (Hannah Hoekstra), brimming with hopes and dreams, purchase an antiquated house near a canal to nurture their blossoming family. Five years later, their joy is encapsulated in their son Billy, the radiant heart of their home. David's seemingly ordinary life takes a chilling turn when his work partner and confidante, Claire (Antonia Campbell-Hughes), entrusts him with an old reel from 1902. The footage reveals a dark secret - their quaint family home was the scene of a savage murder over a century ago. As David grapples with the eerie revelation, he starts noticing a spectral presence lurking within the walls of his house, a stranger seemingly fixated on his son. Amidst the spectral haunting, David becomes increasingly suspicious of Alice's interactions with her client, Alex (Carl Shaaban). Driven by his paranoia, he follows his wife to the nearby canal, where he stumbles upon the bitter truth of Alice's affair with Alex. His world begins to spiral further when Alice mysteriously vanishes. The police soon enter the scene, their scrutiny turning towards David as the prime suspect in Alice's disappearance. As the law enforcement's conviction of David's guilt deepens, he finds himself in a desperate race against time. He must unravel the spectral mystery enveloping his house and prove his innocence, while battling the possibility that an otherworldly entity might be the real perpetrator. In The Canal, the line between the living and the dead blurs, crafting a haunting tale of deceit, paranoia, and the supernatural.
