The Banger (2020)

In the fictitious northern Bohemian town of Slukdorf, life has been reshaped by the hollow echoes of once thriving factories, now replaced with an unending hustle of gambling dens, casinos and the shadowy world of prostitution. Amidst this bleak tapestry, we find 18-year-old Kamila, a young woman worn thin by the tired monotony of her life, caught in the gears of the town's desperate slot machine industry. Her family life is no respite, either. Her father, known as Bourák, is an eccentric dealer of automobile wreckage, while her mother, a woman of unwavering devotion, finds herself in the crosshairs of her boss - a local mobster teetering on the precipice of madness. Adding to this chaotic ensemble is a stoic teenager with a battered pink Cadillac, who romances a girl looking as though she stepped out of a vintage American lingerie magazine. It's a whirlwind Kamila can't stand to be swept into any longer. She decides to take matters into her own hands, determined to force her mother to finally confront her father's eccentricities and the crumbling world around them. The story of Bourák is one of resilience, desperation, and the pursuit of change in a town that seems forever stuck in its ways.
