In the heart of 8th century China, young Nie Yinniang, a general's daughter, is abruptly torn from her childhood and entrusted to a stern nun. Under the nun's rigorous tutelage, she is molded into an extraordinary assassin, her hands ordained to purge the land of the wicked and corrupt governors. Yet, when she falters in her duty, she is dispatched back to her birthplace, burdened with a devastating command: to assassinate the man to whom she was once promised, her cousin, who now commands the most formidable independent military region in North China.
