Tempting Fate (1998)

Grappling with the devastating loss of his beloved, a man encounters a peculiar inventor claiming to have built a machine capable of transporting one to a parallel universe. Driven by grief and desperate to reunite with his lost love, he embarks on a journey to this alternate reality, where his beloved thrives, alive and well. Eager to settle in this world, he finds himself ensnared by its unique and unfamiliar laws, compelling him to return home. His escape plan, however, goes up in smoke when a fire engulfs the inventor's lab, destroying the machine and claiming the inventor's life. Stranded in this foreign world, his only glimmer of hope arrives in the form of a woman from his original world, an inventor herself, who has crafted a similar machine. Her arrival, however, stirs up trouble as the locals, seeing her as an anomaly due to her counterpart's existence, label her insane and deny her claims. Together, they navigate this treacherous landscape, seeking to convince the locals of their outlandish truth and find a way back home, making for a tale that straddles the fine line between love, loss and the surreal realms of parallel universes.
