In the cutthroat world of academia, Leigh Ann Watson (Katie Holmes), a bright-eyed and ambitious senior, finds herself teetering on the edge of her dream. A single point stands between her and the coveted valedictorian title, a gateway to an esteemed scholarship to Harvard. The only thorn in her path is her cunning History teacher, Mrs. Eve Tingle (Dame Helen Mirren), a pedagogical puppet master known for her ruthless classroom tactics. Leigh Ann, otherwise an exemplary student, is struggling with a mediocre "C" in Mrs. Tingle's class. The school's pariah, Luke Churner (Barry Watson), steps in to assist, purloining the answers to the upcoming test. However, their scheme goes awry when the test answers find their way into Leigh Ann's bag, and Mrs. Tingle, quick to seize the opportunity, reports the incident to the absent Principal. In a desperate bid to salvage their futures, Leigh Ann, alongside her friend Jo Lynn Jordan (Marisa Coughlan) and Luke, ventures into the lioness's den — Mrs. Tingle's home — to confront her. The evening spirals into chaos, culminating in a dire accident that leaves Mrs. Tingle unconscious and bound in her bed by the terrified trio. As Mrs. Tingle awakens, a deadly game of cat and mouse ensues. The students attempt to negotiate with their captive teacher, but in the twisted labyrinth of Mrs. Tingle's mind, nothing is as straightforward as it seems. Friendships are strained, loyalties are tested, and trust hangs by a thin thread as they grapple with the question — is Mrs. Tingle biding her time, waiting to pounce when they least expect it?
