Plot

In the wake of his parents' turbulent divorce, young Kazuo Saito embarks on a new life in Onomichi, reluctantly leaving behind his childhood sweetheart. Fate, however, has a pleasant surprise waiting at his new school, in the form of his old confidante Kazumi. As she unabashedly reminisces about their shared past, including a youthful pledge of marriage, Kazuo grapples with a surge of awkwardness, further complicated by Kazumi's current beau, Hiroshi Yamamoto. Despite Hiroshi's irksome demeanor, the old bond between Kazuo and Kazumi refuses to fade, effortlessly rekindling their camaraderie. Kazumi hails from a spirited, quintessentially Japanese family that upholds a cherished soba noodle restaurant. Her vibrant family, featuring her parents, a charming grandfather, a bubbly niece, and her Tokyo-residing elder brother, infuses warmth into her life. One memorable day, Kazumi invites Kazuo to her family house, and they nostalgically revisit their shared memories. In the course of their reminiscing, they travel to their favorite childhood haunt, the aptly named "Lonely Watering Place". As Kazumi attempts to draw water, commenting on its role in enhancing the flavors of their soba noodles, a mishap plunges them both into the water. They scramble to the shore, only to make a startling discovery - their bodies have inexplicably switched. The simple narrative thus transforms into an intriguing exploration of identity, friendship, and life's unexpected twists.
