Street Without End (1934)

Sugiko, a vivacious waitress with a vibrant life, is on her way to a rendezvous with her boyfriend when a twist of fate alters her course. Struck by a car, she finds herself confined within the sterile walls of a hospital, her dreams and plans suddenly obscured by a veil of uncertainty. Her absence at the meeting place sparks a flame of betrayal in her boyfriend's heart, leading him to abandon the city and retreat to his hometown. The man responsible for her predicament, Yamauchi, a wealthy businessman, is drawn to her resilient spirit. He proposes to her, offering a world of opulence and comfort. Sugiko succumbs to the allure of stability, marrying Yamauchi and stepping into a life far removed from the bustling diner and the enamored patrons she once knew. However, the golden cage soon loses its shine. The monotony of her new life, far removed from her vibrant past, begins to weigh on her. She yearns for the familiar hum of the diner, the simple satisfaction of a job well done, the everyday interactions that once filled her life with color. Unable to quench her thirst for freedom within the confines of her gilded life, she finds herself drawn back to her old world. In Street Without End, life's unpredictable turns lead Sugiko down a winding path, from love's hopeful promise, through a stifling domestic existence, and back to a world she thought she had left behind. Along the way, she learns that life's riches are not always wrapped in gold and that the end of one road often marks the beginning of another.
