Plot

Over a decade has passed since the heartrending disappearance of three-year-old Zoe Paddington from her Seattle home, a calamity that resulted in the painful dissolution of her parents' marriage. Laura Paddington, a steadfast attorney, and Richard Paddington, a dedicated physician, are the bereaved parents caught in the maelstrom of this enduring mystery. The case of Zoe's suspected abduction has not only fractured their union but also formed an unlikely friendship with the case's chief investigator, Garwin, a now-retired FBI officer. Haunted by the ghost of their missing daughter, Laura and Richard live diverging lives. Richard seeks solace in overseas humanitarian missions, while Laura remains tethered to their past, visiting the site of Zoe's disappearance and maintaining a shrine-like room, untouched since the day Zoe vanished. Her quest for closure leads her to a support group for the loved ones of missing persons, where she finds solace in the compassionate arms of her new partner, Jacob Nyholm, who is nursing his own loss. As Jacob gently urges Laura to let go of the past, destiny brings her face-to-face with Rebecca, a young woman who bears an uncanny resemblance to a grown-up Zoe. The striking similarity, most notably a distinctive birthmark, prompts a roller coaster of emotions and a hasty DNA test, which provides a glimmer of hope that the lost might be found. With the case abruptly closed, the seventeen-year-old Rebecca is thrust back into Laura's life as the long-lost Zoe. However, as Laura juggles her newfound joy with her high-profile case against a ruthless gang, her euphoria is threatened by Richard's skepticism. His doubts about Rebecca's true identity not only drive a wedge between him and Laura but also hint at a possible deception that could endanger their lives. Retired but not resigned, Garwin is not as quick as Laura to accept the miraculous return. His persistent investigation uncovers a cynical plot, adding a thrilling twist to this tale of loss, love, and the relentless pursuit of truth. "Stolen Dreams" (2015) is a riveting journey through the murky waters of a parent's worst nightmare, revealing the heartbreaking costs and surprising consolations of an enduring mystery.
