Still Crazy (1998)

“They were "Strange Fruit". Some called them the greatest rock band of the '70s. They haven't played together for 20 years. No wonder they're worried about their performance.”

Plot

In its heyday, the "Strange Fruit" band was an electrifying rock phenomenon. They had it all: fame, wealth, success, a loyal legion of groupies, and even a frontman who tragically succumbed to a fatal overdose. Their sensational demise was as theatrical as their rise, with a lightning bolt striking their stage during an open-air concert, signalling the end of an era. Now, twenty years later, the once wild and glamorous rock gods have slipped into the shadows of obscurity, their former rockstar lives replaced by mundane day jobs and ordinary pursuits. Tony Costello (Stephen Rea), the former keyboard virtuoso, finds himself unable to shake off the nostalgia of their glory days. Driven by public demand and a hunger for the intoxicating rush of their past, he conceives the idea of a reunion tour. With the aid of Karen Knowles (Juliet Aubrey), their erstwhile manager who still carries a torch for the presumed dead lead guitarist Brian Lovell (Bruce Robinson), Tony embarks on a mission to reunite the band. The once invincible rockstars, now grappling with age, obscurity, and the mundanity of their present lives, are faced with the challenge of rekindling their lost magic. As they navigate their way through the labyrinth of past glories, forgotten friendships, and personal demons, they find themselves yearning for one last shot at greatness. Can they recapture the spirit of "Strange Fruit" and give themselves a second chance at rock immortality? The answer lies within this heartwarming tale of dreams, redemption, and the enduring power of music. Embark on this journey with them, as they attempt to find their rhythm once again, against all odds.
