Plot

In the bustling heart of New York, charismatic band leader Terry Rooney (Cagney) finds a golden ticket to fame in the form of a lucrative Hollywood film contract. Eagerly, he and his bride-to-be bundle up their lives and set a course for the dazzling allure of California. Upon arrival, they're greeted by the stern Mr. Regan, the studio head who misinterprets Rooney's unsought desire for stardom as audacious arrogance. As Rooney's debut film skyrockets to a resounding success, Mr. Regan cunningly conceals the magnitude of Rooney's newfound fame. Striving for a breath of fresh air, Rooney whisks his wife away on a romantic South Seas honeymoon cruise, oblivious of the celebrity status awaiting back home. Their return unveils the staggering reality of Rooney's fame, a truth hidden away in the glitzy folds of Hollywood.
