Plot

In the rugged terrain of Timber Rock, a fierce range war is raging between the cattlemen and the sheepmen. Government agent Steve Brent, who operates covertly as the Durango Kid (Charles Starrett) finds himself embroiled in this conflict. The cattlemen, with a grasp of Economics 101, ruthlessly slaughter their own herds to manipulate market prices, cunningly shifting the blame onto the unsuspecting sheepmen. The charismatic leader of the sheepmen, Jack Mahoney (Jock Mahoney), finds himself falsely accused of the heinous murder of rancher Jim Woodstock (Frank O'Connor). This accusation shatters his engagement with Woodstock's fiery and heartbroken daughter, Roberta (Dani Sue Nolan), who is left disillusioned by the man she once loved. In a twist of fate, Brent infiltrates the cattlemen's ranks, ostensibly as an ally, but in reality, he's on a mission to unearth the true killer. Amidst the chaos and the turmoil, the jovial Smiley Burnette offers a musical reprieve with his song "It's Got To Get Better". However, as the tension escalates, it's clear that things are far from improving in Smoky Canyon.
