In the heart of New York City, Ray Winkler, an ex-con turned straight-laced menial worker, and his wife Frances, better known as Frenchy, a vibrant former stripper turned nail technician, have been navigating a life of simplicity and respectability for twenty-five years. Ray, having a history as a skillful safe-cracker and Frenchy, his apt student, have managed to steer clear of their criminal past, with Frenchy's obsession for the glamorous lives of the rich and famous being the only remnant of their former life. However, the monotonous life takes an unexpected turn when Ray hatches a plan to use Frenchy's hard-earned $6,000 as seed money for a daring bank heist. Together with his dim-witted accomplices, Denny Doyle and Tommy Walker, they plan to rent a deserted storefront near a bank and tunnel their way to the vault, anticipating a hefty $2 million score. The only thing missing is a plausible front for their rented store, and Frenchy's talent for baking cookies serves as the perfect cover. As Ray and his band of unlikely criminals burrow their way to riches, the cookie business unexpectedly takes off, turning them into successful entrepreneurs overnight. This sudden wealth stirs different desires in Ray and Frenchy. Frenchy yearns for a cultured life, yearning to be recognized as a sophisticated woman and patron of the arts, while Ray craves the simplicity of their old life. The marriage teeters on the brink as their aspirations diverge. Meanwhile, the local moneyed class is not ready to welcome these new players.
