Plot

In the turbulent year of 1963, wealthy and wayward Lydia finds herself exiled from North Carolina, along with her intelligent, 14-year-old son Sam, as her influential father fiercely campaigns for governor. Their journey leads them to the raw beauty of Wyoming, where Lydia immerses herself in a whirlwind of parties and Sam discovers he's among the rare literate students at Grosvant High School. Sam's life takes an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with Maurey, an inquisitive pre-teen eager to uncover the mysteries of sex. Guided by Lydia's unconventional wisdom that their exploration should cease when Maurey gets her first period, the duo embarks on a journey of discovery. However, the consequences are more serious than they anticipate when a pregnancy precedes adolescence. Amidst the small-town whispers, Maurey is left grappling with her predicament, leaving Sam questioning his role. As this unfolds, the enigmatic Blackfoot, Hank Elkrunner, finds himself drawn to the carefree Lydia, even as her overbearing father watches over them from a distance. In this coming-of-age tale, relationships intertwine, secrets unravel, and lives are forever altered.
